This past weekend, Kellie and I traveled to El Paso, Texas, to visit the military troops stationed there. On Friday, our first day in Texas, we began with a trip to the Fort Bliss PX to meet as many soldiers and families as possible. I was pleasantly surprised to find that we have many dedicated fans across the country! As the day progressed we had the honor of visiting the Fort Bliss fire station as well as the Freedom Crossing outdoor center.
On the second day of our trip, we took a drive out to the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. Here we were greeted with open arms to take a tour of the Bataan Death March course that was going to take place the next day. The Bataan Memorial Death March is a challenging march through the high desert terrain of White Sands Missile Range, conducted in honor of the heroic service members who defended the Philippine Islands during World War II, sacrificing their freedom, health and in many cases, their very lives. To our surprise we also met a few of the “survivors” of this battle and had the honor of hearing their incredible stories.
To end our trip Kellie and I visited the White Sands Missile Range fire station. Here, we met dedicated service men who keep the base safe from all catastrophes. The fire fighters took us on a ride in the “Crash” fire trucks that protect the airfield and gave us a tour of the station. This truly was an amazing adventure that Kellie and I will always remember.
Fins Up!
Amy
